Arsenal cannot be criticised for not winning trophies when Tottenham do same, says Gus Poyet
FA Cup is Spurs last chance of silverware this season, they have not won a trophy since winning League Cup in 2008
GUS POYET insists Tottenham must win the FA Cup to consider their season to have been a real success and should be under the same scrutiny as Arsenal.
Spurs face Manchester United in Saturday’s semi-final clash at Wembley.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side exited the EFL Cup in the fourth round, and threw away a lead before crashing out of the Champions League by Juventus in the last 16.
So the FA Cup is Poch’s last chance this season of picking up his first piece of silverware during his four-year stint in North London.
And while progress is being made at White Hart Lane, Poyet who spent three years at Spurs reckons his old club should be under the same spotlight for not winning trophies as local rivals Arsenal.
The Bordeaux boss told : “We cannot talk about a great season… we can talk about a good season.
“It’s a good season if you get in the Champions League – it’s very difficult to get there – but for a great season you need a trophy.
“I think we can’t always criticise Arsenal for not winning trophies, but then go to the other side of London and say that it’s okay not winning trophies.”
‘WE CAN DO IT’ Tottenham winning FA Cup will spark trophy-laden glory years, claims Jan Vertonghen
The Uruguayan was part of Juande Ramos’ coaching staff when Spurs won their last trophy by beating Chelsea in the League Cup ten years ago.
Poyet continued:“I was lucky enough to be there for the last trophy, with Juande Ramos in 2008, and that shows how much they need that.
