Danny Rose ruled out of Tottenham clash against Manchester City with fears over World Cup fitness
Spurs reveal that the England left-back has suffered a calf injury and is 'expected to be sidelined short-term'
DANNY ROSE has been ruled out of Tottenham’s clash against Manchester City on Saturday – sparking fears he may face a battle to fit for the World Cup.
Spurs revealed today that the England left-back has suffered a calf injury and is “expected to be sidelined short-term.”
That will be a worry for Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate who is due to name his 30-odd-man squad for Russia on May 14.
It is not the first time Rose has been blighted by injury this season.
The defender, 27, missed the first two months of the campaign with a knee injury, which then returned in December and ruled him out for a further two-and-a-half months.
Rose featured in both of England’s friendlies – against Holland and Italy – last month.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said: "It's a minor injury.
"We made the discovery yesterday. We don't believe it's a big issue."

Meanwhile, Rose’s Tottenham and England midfield team-mate Harry Winks looks unlikely to play again this season after being sent to Qatar to undergo rehab work on his ankle injury.
Spurs boss Pochettino said: “We are concerned with the situation. We hope he can fix the problem and come back with the group.”
