LAST season, City fell out of European contention at the first knockout hurdle, losing to Monaco on away goals in a thrilling tie.
City won the first-leg 5-3 at the Etihad, but were beaten 3-1 at home to crash out as Guardiola endured a rare trophy-less season.
Monaco went on to beat Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals, but lost to Juventus in the semis - who themselves lost to Real Madrid in the final.

BAYERN MUNICH 2 Atletico Madrid 2 - 2015-16 semi-final
Atletico Madrid win on away goals
A YEAR earlier and Guardiola led Bayern Munich into the semi-final clash with Atletico as strong favourites.
However they lost the first-leg 1-0 away before winning at home 2-1 - missing out on the final on away goals.

Real Madrid went on to beat their local rivals in the final, 5-3 on penalties.

BAYERN MUNICH 3 Barcelona 5 - 2014-15 semi-final
AS it was in 2015-16, Bayern Munich fell short, losing at the semi-final stage in 2014-15 - this time to Barcelona.
The Spaniards put themselves well in charge with a 3-0 win at the Nou Camp, before Bayern won the second-leg at the Allianz Arena 3-2, losing 5-3 on aggregate.
Barcelona went on to win the Champions League that season, beating Juventus 3-1 in the final.

BAYERN MUNICH 0 Real Madrid 5 - 2013-14 semi-final
NOT a particularly close tie, this one, as Pep's Bayern Munich were thumped by Los Blancos across two legs.
After only losing 1-0 at the Bernabeu, the Bundesliga were in with a chance, before they were annihilated 4-0 at home to the eventual champions.
Real Madrid beat Atletico 4-1 after extra-time to lift the trophy, which sparked an era of Galacticos dominance.

BARCELONA 2 Chelsea 3 - 2011-12 semi-final
CHELSEA battled past Barcelona in a thrilling two-legged encounter in 2012.
After the Blues won the first leg 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, Barca were still deemed favourites.
Barceloan went 2-0 up and John Terry was sent-off, with things looking bleak... until Ramires' sublime chip to put the Blues ahead on away goals.
Fernando Torres then scored a last-gasp goal to seal a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp... cue Gary Neville's "ooooooooh!".
Chelsea went on to beat Bayern Munich in the final, winning 4-3 on penalties.

BARCELONA 2 Inter Milan 3 - 2009-10 semi-final
GUARDIOLA'S only other Champions League knockout defeat at Barcelona came at the hands of a Jose Mourinho-led Inter in 2010.
The Serie A giants stormed to a 3-1 lead from the first-leg at the San Siro, before a defensive rearguard saw Barcelona only manage one goal in a 1-0 win at the Nou Camp.
Inter Milan sneaked through 3-2 on aggregate before famously beating Bayern Munich 2-0 in Madrid.
