Gareth Bale ‘does nothing that makes him worth £87m’ says former Real Madrid chief Jorge Valdano

Valdano pulled no punches in his assessment of the Welsh international's market value

GARETH BALE'S performance in the Madrid derby has come in for some fierce criticism.

The Welsh winger was restored to the Real Madrid line-up by Zinedine Zidane, and managed to get the assist for Cristiano Ronaldo's goal.

But a 1-1 draw at home to Atletico was seen as points dropped, and Bale saw a fair few efforts either fly wide or saved by Jan Oblak.

Former Real Madrid president Jorge Valdano, who also played for the club as a striker, questioned Bale's value after the game.

Speaking to , Valdano said: ";Nothing that Bale does is worth 100 million and he has only the number he plays with on his shirt."

Rumours continue to mount that Bale's career could lie away from the Bernabeu, but the man himself reportedly has no desire to leave the club.

Things have turned sour for the 28-year-old and he didn't even feature at all in the recent 3-0 Champions League win away at Juventus.

However Spanish website  are reporting that "those closest to him insist that he has no plans to leave in this summer's transfer window".

They add that "if he does go, it will have to be the club that takes the step of putting him on the market."

Bale played only 36 minutes in total over the two legs of Real Madrid's last-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

He was again named on the bench for the win in Turin, and watched on as boss Zidane introduced Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez.

And despite playing the full 90 minutes in the La Liga draw against rivals Atletico, there are still questions to ask about where he fits in at the club.
