JOHN TERRY paid tribute to Ray Wilkins by placing a captain's armband on a photo of the Blues legend at Stamford Bridge.
Wilkins passed away in hospital on Wednesday, days after a cardiac arrest.
The football world is now mourning the loss of the ex-Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder, nicknamed Butch, with legends of the game hailing him as a person and professional.
Former Blues skipper Terry, now at Aston Villa, posted on his Instagram page: "At Stamford Bridge today paying my respects to the great man Ray Wilkins.
"I placed my captains armband on one of Ray's pictures as a mark of respect."
"Ray was our youngest ever permanent captain at 18... LEGEND."
Chelsea have announced their plans for the weekend as they honour the 84-cap England international.
Blues host West Ham at 4.30pm on Sunday and will pay tribute with a minute of applause, with their players wearing black armbands during the match.
The club revealed on their website: "A special area has been set up near to the Britannia Gate entrance to the stadium site, where supporters can leave messages and mementoes.
"This area will be open daily from 8am-10pm, and from 9am on Sunday, when we host West Ham United in the Premier League.
"We will also be opening a book of condolence from Friday morning for those fans wishing to pay their respects, which will also be shared with the Wilkins family."
Premier League clubs across the country are also expected to honour Wilkins during this weekend's matches.
He played 179 league matches for the Blues before joining Man Utd and winning the FA Cup in 1983.
Wilkins then joined Italian giants AC Milan for £1.5million before enjoying a brief spell at Paris Saint-Germain and two years at Rangers.
After retiring he bossed QPR, Fulham and the Jordan national team.
Wilkins returned to Stamford Bridge as assistant coach from 2008 until 2010, working alongside Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti.
Upon hearing Wilkins had passed away yesterday, Terry, 37, posted the emotion message: "Devastated to hear the news that Ray Wilkins has passed away.
"Ray, you played, coached and managed at the highest level, sharing your knowledge with all who had the pleasure to play with you.
"I loved our talks on football and the stories you had on our beautiful game, the greats you had played with and against.
"For me personally you were such a great influence on my career, I can hear you now as a 17 year old 'come on fella get ya boots on' and you would take me on the pitch pinging left and right foot diagonals, making it look so easy.
"You was a GREAT footballer and a true GENTLEMAN who had time for everyone.
"I will miss you Ray. RIP mate
"My thoughts and prayers are with Jackie, Jade and Ross at this deeply sad time."
