CRISTIANO RONALDO tried to fool the referee by diving in the box and then had the cheek to appeal for a penalty.

The Portuguese superstar was desperate to get his side back into the contest after falling behind against Holland.

The 33-year-old was just about to unleash a left-footed strike when he felt the slightest bit of contact on his back.

Ronaldo then saw it as the perfect opportunity to go down and added to the effect of his dive by booting the turf instead of the ball.

The Real Madrid man added a couple of customary rolls on the floor before starting his appeal to the referee.

Unsurprisingly French referee Ruddy Buquet wasn't falling for it and told him to get to his feet.
