Andrea Pirlo set to become Italy’s No 2 if Chelsea boss Antonio Conte or Carlo Ancelotti get the top job this summer

ANDREA PIRLO is reportedly in line to become Italy’s next assistant manager if either Antonio Conte or Carlo Ancelotti land the top job.
Former AC Milan and Juventus superstar Pirlo is believed to be interested in taking up a backroom role after retiring from the game following a stint in the MLS with New York City.
Pirlo has been linked with Chelsea as a potential assistant to Conte.
But with the Premier League-winning manager looking set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, it is unlikely Pirlo will be making the move to London.
And claims he will instead take up a position with the Italian national team as their No 2 should close friend Conte reclaim the throne he gave up to take charge at Chelsea two years ago.
However, Pirlo’s role with Italy doesn’t necessarily depend on Conte’s future.
The report adds that he could also join the set-up if former Bayern Munich boss Ancelotti gets the nod instead.
Ancelotti was sacked by the Germans earlier this season after an uninspiring start to the Bundesliga season.

And after trying his luck with the likes of Milan, PSG, Real Madrid and Chelsea, Ancelotti could be tempted to finally try his hand at international duty.
Pirlo is regarded as a real legend amongst Italian football fans, and his presence in a new-look system would go some way towards making up for the failure to qualify for this summer’s World Cup.
