Wigan 0 Southampton 2: Mark Hughes gets first win since returning to Southampton as plucky Wigan seen off in FA Cup Sixth Round
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg netted in the 62nd minute and then Cedric sealed the game in injury time with a sweet finish
MARK HUGHES enjoyed a perfect first game in charge of Southampton as he guided his new club to Wembley.
Pierre Emile Hojbjerg put the visitors ahead just after the hour to put the skids under Wigan's fairytale FA Cup run.
Then in stoppage time sub Nathan Redmond's deflected pass saw Cedric Soares to race clear and seal it.
And but for Latics keeper Christian Walton Saints could have scored more during a much improved second half display.
Early on he made up for spilling a high ball by recovering well to save from record signing Guido Carrillo.
At the other end a deflected shot by Nathan Byrne bobbled across the face of goal and inches wide with Che Dunkley just unable to turn it in.
Nathan Massey's cross failed to reach Will Grigg but dropped nicely for Gary Roberts who scooped his shot over the bar.
Michael Jacobs' low cross from the left inches too far ahead of Grigg, the top scorer in this season's competition with seven.

Latics - who had already put three Premier League teams out this season - had been much the better team.
Sparky must have had some words with his players at the break because they looked more purposeful after the break.
Nathan Byrne's blind back-pass presented Gabbiadini with a golden chance but Walton did brilliantly to spread himself and save.
The Latics keeper made another smart save to tip over a bullet header from Hojbjerg soon afterwards.
But from another Tadic corner from the left, the Dane turned it goalwards and Dan Burn was unable to keep it out.
Gabbiadini was sent sprawling in the box by Burn as he went through on goal for one of the clearest penalties you will see.
The Italian picked himself up but his left-footed effort from the spot was superbly tipped away by Walton.
However Soares showed him how it should be done as he burst clear down the left hand channel and rolled past Walton.
