MARK HUGHES enjoyed a perfect first game in charge of Southampton as he guided his new club to Wembley.

Pierre Emile Hojbjerg put the visitors ahead just after the hour to put the skids under Wigan's fairytale FA Cup run.

Nathan Byrne's blind back-pass presented Gabbiadini with a golden chance but Walton did brilliantly to spread himself and save.

The Latics keeper made another smart save to tip over a bullet header from Hojbjerg soon afterwards.

Gabbiadini was sent sprawling in the box by Burn as he went through on goal for one of the clearest penalties you will see.

The Italian picked himself up but his left-footed effort from the spot was superbly tipped away by Walton.

However Soares showed him how it should be done as he burst clear down the left hand channel and rolled past Walton.
