AC Milan star Gianluigi Donnarumma set to leave after approach for Napoli’s Pepe Reina

Young Italian keeper has been targeted by Chelsea and PSG after becoming the target for the San Siro boo-boys this season

GIANLUIGI DONNARUMMA has moved closer to a summer move after AC Milan admitted they have asked about signing Pepe Reina.

Donnarumma’s future at the San Siro has been in doubt all season even though he only signed a new long-term deal with the club last summer.

The highly-rated teenage keeper has been the target of the Milan boo-boys ever since, and was reduced to tears by their criticism in one game earlier this season.

He also had fake money thrown at him while playing for Italy at the European under-21 Championship last summer, amid accusations he was more interest than wages than representing the club.

Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have all shown an interest in taking the 19-year-old away from Italy while Juventus are offering him the chance to escape and stay in Serie A.

And now an exit looks almost certain after Milan director Massimiliano Mirabelli admitted the club has asked Napoli about their veteran keeper Reina.

Mirabelli said: “We did inform Napoli that we want to speak to Pepe Reina’s agent, because we want to see if there’s a possibility of bringing the player to Milan.”

Former Liverpool keeper Reina has enjoyed a successful time in Italy, but his contract with Napoli runs out at the end of this season.

The 35-year-old now has the option of making the move to Milan to be the replacement for Donnarumma – if he decided to leave title chasing Napoli.

Spanish giants Real were the first to show interest in Donnarumma, widely regarded as the national successor to Gianluigi Buffon as Italy number one.

They had hoped to sign him last summer, only for the teenager to sign his new deal with Milan.

Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois is another target for the European champions, and that is the reason the Premier League club have targeted Donnarumma as the Belgian’s potential replacement.

But in recent weeks PSG have emerged as genuine contenders for his signature as they look to add a top class goalkeeper to their squad.

And Juventus have also shown an interest in taking him to Turin as, like Italy, they prepare for life after Buffon.
