Liverpool ‘closing in on agreement’ to beat Arsenal for Monaco star Thomas Lemar
French international was close to Arsenal move last year, but switch was blocked after Monaco sold host of stars last summer
LIVERPOOL are in pole-position to sign Monaco star Thomas Lemar, according to reports in France.
The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League last summer with Arsenal and Liverpool battling for his signature.
The 22-year-old agreed terms with the Gunners before the start of the campaign, but the French champions blocked his move after allowing a host of other stars to leave.
Monaco always hoped to keep the French international this term and spark a bidding war at the end of the season.
Lemar is valued at around £90million with reporting Liverpool are close to agreeing a fee for the midfielder.
It is claimed the Reds have "made some good moves" in recent weeks and are putting the finishing touches on a potential deal.

Lemar only has two years remaining on his contract at the Stade Louis II and has no intention of signing a new deal.
With that in mind Monaco may be tempted to lower their asking price for the Frenchman.

Atletico Madrid are also plotting a move for Lemar as a possible replacement for Antoine Griezmann who seems to be heading for the Wanda Metropolitano exit.
But it looks like Lemar has decided his future is at Anfield and could be the man to replace Emre Can who is on his way to Juventus.
If Jurgen Klopp bags Lemar, it will potentially take the Merseysider’s spending to over £150m with the arrival of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig.
