Manchester United star Nemanja Matic has street named after him in Serbia
Former Chelsea midfielder is well on the road to immortality after his home country's gesture
NEMANJA MATIC is well on the road to immortality by having a street named after him.
Manchester United’s Serbian midfielder, 29, is revered in his home country.
Ex-Chelsea star Matic is now being honoured by the town of Ub, 40 miles west of capital city Belgrade.
He was born there, spent a year with Jedinstvo Ub and has since paid for them to have a new stadium.
Town mayor Darko Grisic said: “Naming a street is the least we can do for Nemanja. It is a sign of gratitude for the many things he has done for this region.
“We thought of renaming a road in the centre after him but then residents would have needed to change their documents.
“So we decided to name a newly built road after him. It will be near the council buildings.”
So after everything he’s done, Matic gets a dead-end street near some municipal offices named after him? Hardly Sir Matt Busby Way is it?
