Duisburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken reveals bizarre reason why he was drinking water in net when opponent scored
Peculiar moment which has been likened to a real-life Fifa glitch has prompted keeper to come forward explaining his actions
THE GOALKEEPER blamed for letting in a truly bizarre goal has explained why he was drinking water at the time his opponent scored.
Duisburg keeper Mark Flekken's moment of madness has been likened to a real-life Fifa glitch.
Although is turns out there is actually an entirely believable excuse for his blunder - which has come to light after fan footage of the incident emerged.
The comical scenes saw Flekken, 24, rooted to the spot in his net as Ingolstadt forward Stefan Kutschke prodded home.
It looks like Flekken has frozen his time. And truth be told he was probably in shock.
Here's what happened.
Duisburg scored a goal and music started playing in the stadium to celebrate. However, the ref ruled it out.
Ingolstadt then took a quick free-kick, with Flekken completely unaware his side's goal had been voided.
Flekken trudges back to his goal thinking he was a few seconds to compose himself and grab a drink on the sunny day.
But by this time the ball has already been booted into his own half with Kutschke bearing down on goal.
Flekken actually has his back to the action as the forward scores.
Speaking of his laughable error, Flekken said: "In the next games, I won't put my bottle in the goal."
Flekken should not be judged too harshly, however.
He saved a penalty from Kustchke 11 minutes into the clash and Duisburg won 2-1.
