USAIN BOLT has revealed that he is set to swap his spikes for studs.

The legendary sprint star retired from athletics in August after a career that saw him win both 100 metres and 200m Olympic gold on three separate occasions, with world records in both events.

The retired Olympian took to social media to announce that he will be joining a football club - but the club will not be revealed until Tuesday.

The eight-time Olympic gold medallist posted a video to his five million Twitter followers which was captioned: "I've signed for a football team! Find out which one this Tuesday at 8am GMT."

Thanks to links between his Puma sponsor and Borussia Dortmund, the sprint legend has a trial with the German side lined up in in March, during the international break.

While Bolt has previously expressed his desire to play for Manchester United following his retirement from the track.

The former world's fastest man is a passionate United fan and is keen to play for his beloved club, and even trained with them when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge.

Which may be why the Jamaican revealed he'd asked Manchester United legend Fergie to put in a good word for him.

In an interview with the , 31-year-old Bolt revealed his dream would be to pull on a United shirt, he said: "One of my biggest dreams is to sign for Manchester United.

"I've spoken to Alex Ferguson and I told him he needs to put in a good word. He told me if I get fit and ready, he will see what he can do."

Meanwhile, last month, after David Beckham announced the launch of his new Major League Soccer franchise, Bolt offered his services to the former England skipper.

He said: "On a serious note, though, if you need a striker I'm the guy.

"If you need goals, I'm the guy. I got you."

And the Jamaican superstar has been practising his skills with the South African league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Despite never playing a professional game, he has been included as a footballer in Pro Evolution Soccer 2018.

Bolt has enjoyed a summer of decadence since retiring from athletics.

But is working hard in a bid to get fit, after a hamstring injury ruined his last hurrah at the World Championships in  London.
