MAREK HAMSIK was shown a yellow card for breaking the corner flag while celebrating his goal before it was ruled out by VAR.
The Slovakia international, who is Napoli's all-time top scorer, was delighted with his effort and made a beeline for the corner flag before smashing it to pieces with a sliding celebration.
However, Hamsik's goal was eventually disallowed for offside after a two-minute VAR consultation.
To make matters worse, the 30-year-old was also shown a yellow card for his excessive celebration.
Napoli still managed to beat SPAL 1-0 for a ninth Serie A win in a row - a club record in a single season.
The Italian side took the lead when Allan struck in the sixth minute with a composed finish.
The result took them back to the summit of the league after Juventus had briefly gone top with a 1-0 win over Torino earlier on Sunday.
Napoli's average points per game this season now stands at 2.64, with only the Premier League's runaway leaders Manchester City able to better that figure in Europe.
Maurizio Sarri's side will now look ahead to their round of 32 Europa League game against RB Leipzig on Thursday.
