Burnley boost as Steven Defour says he wants to extend contract after knee surgery as he targets return to fitness in time to face England at the World Cup
Belgian star had been an ever-present for Sean Dyche's men in the Premier League before he was sidelined by injury
BELGIAN star Steven Defour wants to extend his stay at Burnley.
The midfielder was one of the top performers for Sean Dyche’s side before being sidelined by knee surgery last month.
But the 29-year-old believes that he will be in peak condition for the start of next season - by defying predictions to play at the World Cup.
Speaking to , the 52-cap ace said: “I am really happy at Burnley.
“We could talk about me signing a new contract.
“If they offer me a suitable deal, I don't see why I shouldn't re-sign for them.
“If Anderlecht's players had the same mentality as Burnley's squad they would win the league.
“We have 25 lads who run until they drop.”
MISSION POSSIBLE Man United to raid Real Madrid to sign midfield star
Defour, an £8million signing from Anderlecht in 2016, has made 25 appearances for Sean Dyche's side this season and scored against Manchester United on Boxing Day.
But after playing for weeks with a pain in his knee, a scan revealed that he needed to go under the knife.

However, that blow has not stopped him from giving up on his dream of appearing at Russia this summer.
And he could even be in the side that faces England in the Group G clash on June 28.
He said: "The Belgium team physio and doctors have not said it is impossible for me to be fit by early June.
"My operation went very well, so let's see.
"But if the coach, Roberto Martinez, needs me to have played regularly before the World Cup then I won't be able to go."
Defour’s current contract at Turf Moor expires next year.
