Liverpool thumping Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday night is awful news for Manchester United

United take on Crystal Palace a day before the second-leg, where Jurgen Klopp is likely to rest stars ahead of the North West derby later that week

LIVERPOOL were the pride of English football on Wednesday night as they put in a five-star display away to Porto.

Jurgen Klopp's men battered the helpless Portuguese giants 5-0 to put one foot firmly in the Champions League quarter-finals.

But while England celebrated yet another impressive performance from a Premier League side, there was one man furious at the result in Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese chief would certainly have hoped his compatriots would put up more of a fight against Klopp's attacking dynamos.

After all, Man United host Liverpool just days after the second leg of the last-16 tie in a crucial clash in the race for second place in the league.

In fact, just four days after the Reds' clash with Porto at Anfield on Tuesday, they make the short trip along the M62 to Old Trafford for the Saturday lunch-time kick-off.

Mourinho would have liked Liverpool to still have it all to do and field a strong team to give themselves a chance of qualification to the next round.

Instead, Klopp could give the kids a run-out and still easily book their place in the last-eight.

Meanwhile, United face Crystal Palace the night before in a Premier League outing at Selhurst Park.

While Mourinho's men will have an extra day of rest, there is no doubt the Special One will need to field a strong side to leave South London with all three points.

On the other hand, Klopp is likely to field the likes of Alberto Moreno, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke to rest some of his big guns for the United showdown.

That also allows Liverpool to field a full-strength starting XI for the Premier League clash with tricky Newcastle at Anfield the Saturday before.

So while the Premier League celebrates yet another successful European week, spare a thought for Mourinho, will you?
