Real Madrid ‘give up on Manchester United ace David De Gea and turn attention to Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois’

Galacticos are reportedly willing to smash the world-record transfer fee to bring in a top goalkeeper this summer

REAL MADRID have reportedly given up on signing David de Gea and will focus on recruiting Thibaut Courtois - and are willing to smash the world record to do so.

The Spanish giants have been linked with moves for both goalkeepers for a number of years.

They came within minutes of securing Manchester United stopper De Gea back in August 2015 before a deadline day fax machine problem scuppered the switch.

The 27-year-old has since signed a new long-term contract with the Red Devils, but Los Blancos were believed to be keen on trying to revive a potential deal.

But now the say Galacticos chiefs feel it will be easier to prise Courtois from Chelsea and will push ahead in their attempts to land the Belgian this summer.

Madrid are prioritising a move for a world-class keeper once the transfer window reopens and are looking to the Premier League for their new long-term No1.

And now it seems Courtois has emerged as their top target.

The Blues star, who spent three years on loan with neighbours Atletico Madrid, still has strong ties with the Spanish capital.

His two children and their mother still live in the city and he has openly revealed in past interviews how his "heart is in Madrid".

Courtois is currently in negations over a bumper new extension to his deal at Stamford Bridge.

However, nothing has been agreed yet and Real hope that will provide them with an opportunity to strike at the end of this season.

And they are allegedly prepared to go all out in their attempts to bring in the best.

Reports suggest that Real are willing to pay up to £100million for a top goalie.

That figure would completely shatter the current world record transfer fee for a stopper.

Manchester City ace Ederson is currently the planet's most-expensive after the Prem leaders forked out £34.7m to Benfica for him last summer.

That figure eclipsed the £32.6m Juventus gave Parma for Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon in 2001, which held top spot for 16 years.
