SWANSEA boosted their chance of beating the drop thanks to Ki Sung-Yueng's strike.

Last out, the Swans thrashed Notts County 8-1 in the FA Cup, but there was no such goal action here.

In fact, it was probably one of the worst opening 45 minutes in Premier League history with ZERO shots on target for either side.

Sure, the rain never helped but it would be wrong to blame the weather for the way these two sides started this match.

Ashley Barnes did have a looping shot that went over the bar while at the other end Sam Clucas also ballooned his effort over.

The only other talking point in a dire 45 minutes was seeing Martin Olsson booked by referee Andre Marriner for diving.

After the restart, Barnes had another effort that had Lukasz Fabianski scrambling but again his shot was off target.

And finally, after 55 trying minutes, Johann Berg Gudmundsson did hit the target with a dipping shot that drew an excellent save from Fabianski.

The striker, who re-joined the Swans from West Ham for £18million in the January transfer window, lined up alongside his brother Jordan.

It was the first time the brothers had played in a league fixture since 2013 when they played for Marseille.

But the two failed to work their magic and it was Tammy Abraham who almost broke the deadlock but his header lacked power.

But then Sung-Yueng hammered home from distance with just eight minutes to go.

WHAT THEY SAID

Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal:"I am very happy with my players, very proud of them, they are doing fantastic work.

"They follow the strategy we create, very professional.

"We blocked them, we started creating problems and as you know during the game I was not happy because we wanted to win, we felt we really wanted to win which is why as a manager I can start to risk and put more players in attack.

"We put in Andre Ayew, Tammy Abraham, we had three attackers in the middle.

"We put all the meat in the barbecue, all the meat inside the grill, because we wish a lot to win the game, I am very happy because that created a big impact."
