Man United 2 Huddersfield 0: Alexis Sanchez scores his first goal for Red Devils as Huddersfield’s relegation fears increase

Chilean saw his penalty saved by Jonas Lossl, but the rebound fell back straight to him and he poked home

ALEXIS SANCHEZ scored his first goal for Manchester United on his Old Trafford debut.

The Chilean forced the ball home after goalkeeper Jonas Lossl had saved his 68th minute penalty.

The day began with a very public come-down for Paul Pogba.

He was dropped for the first time since Jose Mourinho brought him back to Old Trafford 18 months ago.

The £89M midfielder was made a clear scapegoat for the 2-0 midweek defeat at Tottenham – during which he was also substituted by boss Mourinho.

United held a minute’s silence to mark the 60th anniversary of the Munich Disaster.

But Mourinho did not stand on ceremony when it came to his team selection.

United’s most expensive player on not Pogba was ditched – along with Ashley Young – with home-grown Scott McTominay starting against the Terriers.

Sanchez worked hard to make an impact and produced a fine turn and shot which brought a desperate parry from Lossl.

Ten minutes after the break the – Arsenal star was involved in the build – up that produced Lukaku’s 19th goal for United since his £75m entrance from Everton.

The ball spun of Sanchez, Nemanja Matic found Juan Mata and his cross was tucked by by Lukaku to claim his fourth goal in six games.

Pogba replaced Jesse Lingard in the 64th minute – Mourinho calling to an end his period in the dunce’s corner.

Soon after that Sanchez was dumped in the box by Michael Hefele.

The Chilean wasted no time in grabbing the ball for himself and while Lossl guessed the spot kick right he was powerless to prevent United’s newest star tucking away the rebound.
