Swansea news: Atletico Madrid star Nicolas Gaitan to be offered £120,000-a-week by Swans to help survival bid

SWANSEA CITY supremo Huw Jenkins is offering Argentinian star Nicolas Gaitan a stunning £120,000-a-week to join his survival fight.

Jenkins has made a personal approach to the Atletico Madrid magician.

And the South American may be allowed to move on loan before the window shuts.

The Welsh club are willing to make Gaitan, 29, their best paid player for the rest of the season in a desperate bid to beat the drop.

Gaitan has been told he can leave by Atletico where he is on the fringes of Diego Simeone’s side.

They wanted a sale but there are no takers.

Now Swansea are willing to invest in Gaitan for the final stages of the campaign.

And Jenkins refuses to give up.

Jenkins has already been turned down by Atletico forward Kevin Gameiro.

But the door is still open for Gaitan.

Swansea boosted their survival hopes with a stunning victory over Liverpool last night.

Alfie Mawson popped up with the only goal of the game moments before half time to end the Reds’ 18-match unbeaten run.

They remain bottom of the table on goal difference behind West Brom.

However, they are now just three points from safety.

The Swans can close the gap further if they can overcome another Prem big boy next Tuesday when Arsenal head to the Liberty Stadium.
