Manchester City target Fred is ‘waiting for Pep Guardiola’s call’ to leave Shakhtar Donetsk
Brazil ace, 24, has already been watched by Etihad manager twice this season as his side faced Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League
SHAKHTAR DONETSK midfielder Fred is "waiting by the phone" for Pep Guardiola to ring.
The Brazil ace, 24, is reportedly being tracked by the Manchester City manager.
Compatriots Gabriel Jesus and Ederson were both convinced to join the Etihad revolution after speaking to Guardiola on the blower.
And Fred is ready for a chat, telling : "I have not received [his call] yet, I'm just eagerly waiting. He'll call me soon!"
Guardiola got a look at Fred on two occasions in the Champions League this season.
It was just before Christmas when City's reported interest in him emerged.
He said: "For me it was well received, even more so on Christmas Eve.
"Now I must continue to do my work at Shakhtar, and to be seen a lot by the whole world."
PEP UP Pep Guardiola chose trying to sign Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez this month over bolstering Manchester City defence with Virgil van Dijk
Fred plays as a defensive midfielder and has scored two goals in 15 league appearances this season.
While he could add to Guardiola's table-topping side, Fred is more interested in how City could add to his own game.
He said: "For sure, I would grow a lot with them. I have a lot to grow."
Fernandinho is the man tasked with sitting in front of City's defensive line.
At 33, he is entering the twilight of his career.
But the Brazilian, speaking after City's 3-1 win over Watford, insisted he does not feel he needs to take a reduced role in the team.
He said: "We are here, we are professional - and I don't like to rest.
"To be honest, I feel like I am 25."
