RICHARD KEYS has paid tribute to the medics he says saved his life.

The controversial television presenter has endured a turbulent year in his private life.

And on New Year's Eve he posted a shocking snap of himself in an oxygen mask and on a drip at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London.

Keys, 60, wrote: "Emotional now & I’ll regret this tomorrow. Not a great year, mostly my fault - but this wasn’t.

"Thank you to everybody @RBandH for saving my life & letting me see 2018. Let’s all have a happy & healthy New Year."

Though Keys revealed his thanks to the doctors last night, the picture is believed to have been taken last summer following a heart scare.

Fans on Twitter immediately responded with get well soon messages, but Keys himself has this morning urged people to tune in to beINSPORTS for today's Premier League matches.

It is understood the former breakfast TV host is now back to full health following his scare.

Keys fronts the Middle East channel's coverage of the Premier League, working alongside former Sky Sports colleague Andy Gray.

But away from the screens, Keys has suffered troubled times in his personal life having become estranged to wife Julia.

Keys had been linked to Lucie Rose, a young lawyer he met while working in Qatar who has since returned to live in the UK.

And last month the presenter's daughter Jemma Keys appeared in court facing charges of sending abusive texts to alleged ex-lover Rose.

He began working in the Middle East after leaving his role as anchor at Sky Sports having been caught up in a sexism storm surrounding assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis.

Footage emerged of Keys mocking the ability of Massey-Ellis, but last year the presenter re-ignited the row when he claimed the official lied about being upset.
