RANGERS battled their way to a hard-earned point at Celtic Park as Graeme Murty earned his second draw against the champions.

Both sides had the chances to win the game but in a rip-roaring match, neither could make the decisive breakthrough.

Alfredo Morelos had three golden opportunities to win the game for Gers but just couldn't find a way past Craig Gordon.

For the Hoops, Scott Sinclair also had three good chances, with the winger pulling the best of them just wide of the post seconds before half-time.

The draw means Brendan Rodgers' men go into the winter shutdown eleven points ahead of their derby rivals.

But after an up-and-down period since taking the reins from Pedro Caixinha, Murty will have been encouraged by the fight shown by his men.

Rangers had a great chance to take the lead in the sixth minute.

Daniel Candeias forced a mistake from Mikael Lustig at the back and Josh Windass released Alfredo Morelos in the right inside channel.

The striker fired across goal, only to be denied by Gordon, while Lustig cleared the rebound.

Celtic were next to go close.

The Hoops opened up Rangers down the left and Forrest collected the ball in the box.

He took a neat touch and weaved his way through the defence before firing at goal with his weaker left foot.

But Declan John managed to react to steer his goalbound effort away from the net.

Foderingham was next to the rescue for Gers, making a fine double save.

The Rangers keeper first palmed the ball away from goal after Bruno Alves seemed to get the touch on it. Scott Sinclair gathered the loose ball and despite having two attempts he was thwarted by James Tavernier and then Foderingham.

With the game moving into added time in the first half Sinclair missed a sitter.

Forrest fired a low ball across the face of goal that was missed by Dembele.

However, Sinclair latched on to the ball at the back post and went for the first time strike but could only steer his effort wide of the post.

Three minutes into second half Candeias lifted a threatening cross into the box and Tavernier latched on to the ball to fire at goal.

His volley was goalbound but Gordon turned the ball over the bar with a fine save.

It hadn't been Moussa Dembele's afternoon, and in the 61st minute he made way for Leigh Griffiths.

Six minutes later Morelos was sure he had broken the deadlock.

Tavernier went on a rampaging run down the right before whipping in a dangerous cross.

Morelos powered his header towards goal but Gordon instinctively stuck out his leg despite being off balance and somehow managed to stop what seemed a certain goal.

Morelos had another golden chance in the 79th minute from another great Tavernier cross.

The little Colombian gave Ajer and Boyata the slip and found himself with a clear header in the middle of the goals, but could only divert the ball wide.
