Harry Kane wants to beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal scoring record – and Spurs striker could equal calendar year record
Shearer scored 260 goals - Kane is already on 93 in just 134 matches
HARRY KANE will top Alan Shearer’s record of 36 Premier League goals in a year if he scores against Southampton at Wembley today.
And then the Tottenham striker wants legend Shearer’s all-time mark of 260 Prem goals.
Kane said: “I would love it if it happened.
“And one day, who knows, I might even be able to go for Alan’s 260 goals in the Premier League.”
Kane hit a hat-trick against Burnley on Saturday to reach 36 in 2017 and now sits on 93 Prem goals in 134 games.
If he scores today, his new record would have taken him six games less than Shearer who set the 36 – goal mark over 42 games in 1995.
The 24-year-old said: “You dream about those things but for me wins are more important than personal records.
“I’m the striker, I’ll get the praise but it’s so important the team does well, we did brilliant against Burnley. Now we play Southampton and just like Burnley it’ll be tough.”
Spurs face boss Mauricio Pochettino’s former club Southampton as they look to get back into the top four. Kane added: “Southampton will be tough and then we go into the new year, hopefully we can continue our form.
“I’ve had a great 2017 and hopefully I can improve in 2018 and get even better.”
Kane also paid tribute to team-mate Dele Alli, who took lots of flack at Burnley.

“He fed off the crowd, he was the pantomime villain out there. He had two assists. That’s when he’s at his best.”
