AFC Wimbledon charged for failing to call MK Dons by proper name in match programme
League One club failed to recognise full-name of rivals when they clashed earlier this season and have now been hit by disciplinary action over their snub
AFC WIMBLEDON have been hit by an EFL charge after snubbing the full name of MK Dons when they clashed in League One this season.
The London club have received notice they are facing disciplinary action after they refused to recognise their bitter rivals.
When the two sides clashed in the league in September, the official matchday programme did not even make any reference to their opponents on the front cover.
And the scoreboard at Kingsmeadow only referred to MK - with AFC Wimbledon refusing to use the Dons as part of their name.
The bad blood between the clubs have existed ever since MH Dons were formed in 2002 when the owners of the original Wimbledon FC moved the side up to Buckinghamshire.
AFC were formed by furious supporters of the old club, and worked their way up fron non-league back into the professional game.
But fans believe the Dons nickname belongs to Wimbledon, and that MK Dons is a completely separate club who should have no claim to the history of the original side.
The League One club are now deciding whether to fight the charge by putting across their side of events.
