Smolov scored twice during Russia's  3-3 draw with Spain last month and have netted six in his last five games for Krasnodar.

The 27-year-old has scored 11 goals in 13 league games for the Russian side this season.

Krasnador value their star player at £15million and are willing to let him go as they go on their two month winter break from December 10.

But Los Blancos midfielder Marco Asensio is reportedly bemused by plans to sign a player who wouldn't go instantly into the first team.

Madrid are struggling for goals and need some cover for Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema after letting go Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez in the summer.

They also failed to secure the signing of Kylian Mbappe from Monaco last summer.

West Ham have been interested in Smolov and are eager to get a deal done in January.

The Hammers are reportedly hopeful they can convince Smolov a move to the Prem would be better for his development as they can promise regular first-team football.
