Everton transfer news: Toffees boss Sam Allardyce lining up stunning January swoop for Watford star Troy Deeney

The 29-year-old has failed to hold down a regular starting spot at Vicarage Road this season, and could be tempted to leave the Hornets

SAM ALLARDYCE has reportedly made Watford star Troy Deeney his top target in the January transfer window.

The new Everton boss is keen to strengthen his side next month, and will look to the out-of-favour Hornets striker to bolster their attack.

According to , sources close to both clubs have told them that the Toffees will look to lure away the 29-year-old from Vicarage Road.

Everton have struggled for goals all season in the after failing to replace Romelu Lukaku, and believe Deeney could be tempted to jump ship to Goodison Park.

The ex-Walsall forward has started just four out of 15 Premier League games this season, as Marco Silva has chosen to start summer signing Andre Gray instead.

SunSport reported back in August the Merseyside club were keen on nabbing the Englishman, but they failed to land him before the window closed.

And ESPN claim that Everton's director of football Steve Walsh has maintained an interest in Deeney, and is a big fan of the Watford legend.

Walsh tried to bring the penalty specialist to the King Power Stadium when he was working at Leicester, and retains hopes of landing the Hornets skipper.

He has netted just twice in 11 games this campaign in all competitions this campaign - both strikes coming from the spot in matches against Arsenal and Manchester United.

Since joining Watford in 2010, Deeney has netted 108 goals in 314 appearances.
