Tottenham transfer news: Toby Alderweireld could be set for Spurs exit as club refuse to break wage structure
TOTTENHAM face losing Toby Alderweireld in the summer with the club refusing to break their wage structure.
The 28-year-old is considered to be among the best centre-backs in the Premier League, and could move on from North London in 2018.
According to the , Alderweireld – who earns £50,000-a-week – is seeking north of Spurs’ £110,000-a-week wage ceiling.
However, chairman Daniel Levy has failed to make a breakthrough in negotiations as the Belgian international pushes for perhaps the last big contract of his career.
His importance in the side has showed in his absence, since picking up a hamstring injury against Real Madrid earlier this month, Tottenham have won just once in four league games.
The Lilywhites have dropped out of the title race, and have subsequently slid down the table into seventh spot – four points behind rivals Arsenal.
The report adds that Mauricio Pochettino‘s men have the option of extending his contract by a further year, but it would activate a release clause.
Should Spurs take up the option of triggering the extension, the former Atletico Madrid star would be allowed to leave for just £25million.

But in the current market, Alderweireld could easily command a fee in excess of £50m.
He is believed to be in no rush to put pen to paper on a new deal, despite his side desperate to tie him down.
London rivals Chelsea are reported to be interested in his services, while Pep Guardiola is eyeing up the ex-Ajax ace as a long-term successor to Vincent Kompany at Manchester City.
Since joining from Atletico for a fee of £11.5m in 2015, Alderweireld has racked up 109 appearances for Spurs, scoring on six occasions.
