Manchester United stars look glum… but Paul Pogba is all smiles as Jose Mourinho’s side fly home after shock Champions League defeat to Basel
Jose Mourinho's side lost 1-0 at St Jakob-Park but are still favourites to qualify from Group A
MANCHESTER UNITED stars looked glum as they landed at Manchester Airport early this morning.
Well, except for Paul Pogba, who was pictured sharing a laugh and a handshake after the late night flight home from Switzerland.
Jose Mourinho's team lost 1-0 to Basel at St Jakob-Park, missing out on the chance to secure qualification to the knockout stage.
United will qualify top of Group A if they draw with CSKA Moscow on December 5 - although they will only fail to reach the next round if the Russian side beat them by seven clear goals at Old Trafford.
With Brighton waiting at the weekend, Mourinho wasted no time getting his squad back to Blighty.
The 1hour 45minute flight actually sees travellers cross the border into France to fly back from the EuroAirport, which serves Basel (Switzerland), Mulhouse (France) and Freiburg (Germany).
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who made his first Champions League appearance in 18 months, looked especially glum as he walked through the airport.
Both Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini opted to keep their hoods up.
BASEL FAULTY Daley Blind says Manchester United don’t need ‘reality check’ but admits fault for Basel loss
Mourinho, his trolley being wheeled by security staff, was in relaxed mood on Wednesday night, despite the defeat.
He said: "I don't think we even need to draw."
Daley Blind blamed himself for the defeat after losing Michael Lang for the goal, but Mourinho disagreed with that summary.
The Portuguese instead blaming missed chances.
He added: "I don't think it's fair for [Blind] to blame himself because he had a very positive game and we have to blame everyone that was on the pitch.
"We lost so many chances that we put ourselves in this situation. It's always a risky situation when you forgive so many chances.
"We lost because in the first half we should have been 5-0 ahead and we couldn't score one goal after being so dominant.
"For many periods of the first half it seemed impossible not to win."
