Manchester City star Benjamin Mendy gives Sky Blues huge injury boost as he posts video doing kick ups

The Frenchman suffered ligament damage against Crystal Palace in September just five games into his City career and is not expected to be able to return to action until April

BENJAMIN MENDY has given Manchester City a huge injury boost as he posts video of himself performing kick ups.

The France international has become a cult hero at the Etihad Stadium despite only joining the club from Monaco in the summer.

Mendy has been sidelined since suffering knee ligament damage on September 23 against Crystal Palace, he has endeared himself to the City masses through his social media channels.

The former Monaco was told to not expect a return until April after undergoing surgery, but the 23-year-old has revealed he is already back kicking a ball again in a short video clip.

The French left-back took to Twitter to provide an update to fans and in the process poked fun at Zlatan Ibrahmiovic.

Mendy post read: "Operation: September 29. Now juggling home with the World Cup ball" with the hashtag: "Sharks don't recover like humans."

The hashtag was in reference to Ibrahamovic's post-match comments, in which he said: "Lion's don't recover like humans."

Mendy created City's the shark team phenomena which has seen fans arrive at games with shark heads.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Mendy explained the nickname: “We’re the big shark and when teams swim up alongside us we gobble them up."

The news will come as a boost for Pep Guardiola after John Stones hamstring injury against Leicester on Saturday.

Guardiola said he expected to be out "four to six weeks."
