Sherwood was thrust into the managerial position at Tottenham after Andre Villa- Boas was axed.

The role created several firsts; Sherwood's first senior management position and Harry Kane's full league debut.

Despite knowing the players and the club's culture, his appointment was met with mixed reviews and only lasted six months.

In an interview with  the 48-year-old lays claim to some of the success that Mauricio Pochettino has achieved and says that he gave the Argentine the platform to succeed.

Sherwood states that it was him who gave the next generation of players their chance to shine, including Kane and Kyle Walker.

He draws comparisons to Poch, stating that the two of them have similar traits, including their attitudes to including the youth team and forward-thinking approach.

The ex Tottenham boss said: “He has done a really fantastic job and, in hindsight, if I'd have known the way he works and the way he likes to develop young players, which is what I like to do, I could have been tempted into staying there to help him out."
While Sherwood was leading Spurs, Poch was at Southampton.

Tottenham may have finished two places above them, but Poch's achievements at Southampton, finishing in eight place, was enough for him to catch the eye of the north London club.

One year on from making his mark in the Premier League, Poch was poached by Spurs.
