Bayern Munich plot move for Mauro Icardi to replace Robert Lewandowski as Premier League giants prepare to swoop

Poland international is reportedly ready for a fresh challenge after showing his discontent at Bayern's transfer strategy

BAYERN MUNICH are ready to flog Robert Lewandowski and land Mauro Icardi as his replacement, according to reports.

Poland star Lewandowski has been at the German giants since 2014 but is seeking a new challenge at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old still has a contract at Bayern until the summer of 2021 but Don Balon claim they are ready to cash in.

Lewandowski is thought to be keen for a crack at Premier League football with Manchester City and Chelsea showing previous interest.

The striker worked with City boss Pep Guardiola when the Spaniard guided the Bavarians to three Bundesliga titles.

Lewandowski has already criticised Bayern's transfer policy over the summer and was disgruntled that the club were not competing with the likes of PSG for players.

And it appears a replacement has already been lined up in Inter Milan's hitman Icardi.

Five years younger than the Pole, Icardi is seen as a long-term option to lead the line at the Allianz Arena.

He has already bagged 11 goals in 12 Serie A starts this season adding to the 24 he bagged last campaign.

Like Lewandowski, he has attracted interest from Chelsea and it is thought he will leave the San Siro if Inter Milan fails yet again to break into the Champions League.
