Harry Kane and Harry Winks due to withdraw from England squad to face German and Brazil
GARETH SOUTHGATE has suffered a massive blow after Harry Kane and Harry Winks withdrew from the England squad.
The Three Lions face Germany at home on Friday before entertaining Brazil four days later at Wembley.
Kane and Winks remained in London today for scans after picking up injuries in the home win over Crystal Palace yesterday.
Striker Kane took a kick on his leg against Palace and midfielder Winks suffered an ankle problem and Spurs do not want either players risked.
And the Three Lions gaffer has handed a recall to West Brom's Jake Livermore as a replacement.
The loss of Kane will be a particular blow as he is Southgate’s most important player, having scored four times in his last four games for England – and 13 goals for Tottenham this term.
Winks delivered a promising debut against Lithuania last month and was due to start at least one of the international games.
Chelsea’s Gary Cahill and Jordan Henderson of Liverpool have also remained at their clubs but both could miss out. Everton’s Michael Keane has been drafted in.
Tottenham’s Dele Alli has already withdrawn because of a hamstring injury and a decision is expected tomorrow whether more replacements are drafted in.
