RB LEIPZIG got their debut Champions League campaign up and running with a 3-2 win at home to Porto.

Goals from Willi Orban, Emil Forsberg and Jean-Kevin Augustin in a rip-roaring first half were enough for the Bundesliga side's first ever win at Europe's top table.

It was a must win game for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side and they responded by taking an early lead when Willi Orban reacted quickest when Porto keeper Jose Sa fumbled Bruma's shot.

Replays showed the Leipzig skipper was offside from the initial shot, but not one Porto player appealed.

Leipzig took control of the game and should have doubled their lead moments later when Jean-Kevin Augustin danced past two defenders but blazed his shot over the bar.

Porto hit back with a close range strike from Vincent Aboubakar.

Leipzig failed to deal with a long throw into box and the ball fell to the Cameroon striker whose neat spin and shot crept past keeper Peter Gulacsi.

And just when Porto were starting to get a foothold in the game, Liepzig went ahead again when Emil Forsberg enhanced his growing reputation with a well worked goal after combining with Marcel Sabitzer.

Augustin looked to have given the Germans a commanding lead just before the break.

Porto defender Ivan Marcano got his feet mixed up and played the ball in to the path of the forward who coolly slotted past the onrushing keeper.

But right at the end of a pulsating first period Lepizig let their two goal lead slip.

Marcano made upfront his error at the other end when skipper Hector Herrera rose at the back post to head a corner back for the Spaniard to force home.

On the hour Bruma could have made the game safe for Leipzig when he raced through, but his effort was cleared off the line by Marcano.
