Fabian Delph in line for bumper new Manchester City contract after impressing Pep Guardiola this season
The 27-year-old still has two-years left on his £85,000-a-week deal, but has become a key member of the squad
FABIAN DELPH is in line for a bumper new Manchester City contract after a stunning start to the season.
The England midfielder has come out of the cold at the Etihad to become a key member of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
The 27-year-old still has two-years left on his £85,000-a-week deal.
But he is set to be rewarded for his fine form with improved terms, with talks set to be scheduled in the coming weeks.
The Ex-Leeds ace was set to be axed by City in the summer, but turned down a £10m move to Stoke.
He wanted to stay and fight for his place at the Etihad, and has managed to battle his way into Guardiola’s plans.
The former Aston Villa star was a stand-out performer as City grabbed a 1-0 win away at Chelsea last week.
A City source said: “He still has two-years left on his deal after Christmas, and a new contract is not out of the question.
“He needs to keep impressing and stay clear of injuries. Pep likes his attitude and the fact he turned down a move away.
“Fabian wanted to give his career here one last go and is reaping the rewards of that.
"He’s a low earner and helps the home-grown quota.”
Delph joined City in 2015 on a five-year deal for £8m, six-days after claiming he was staying at Aston Villa.
He has gone on to make 26 Premier League appearances for the club and score four goals.
