EVERTON have stepped up their interest in Uruguay youngster Federico Martinez – who plays for Liverpool.
The 21-year-old winger, who has been compared to Angel Di Maria in South America, broke into the first-team at Liverpool FC in Montevideo.
And scouts are looking to bring him to Europe.
Everton and Atletico Madrid are leading the chase for the wide man, who has a Spanish passport so can move without a work permit.
While Arsenal have also monitored Martinez, who scored a stunning goal against Penerol last month.
In that game he was playing against ex-Anfield winger Maxi Rodriguez, who is playing in the Uruguayan league at the age of 36.
But it is Liverpool’s rivals Everton who are pushing hardest for Martinez as they look to snap up potential stars of the future to nurture at Goodison Park.
West Ham have previously been linked with the youngster, following his emergence in senior football.
