Clarke Carlisle missing: Fears grow for ex-Premier League star after former PFA chairman goes missing with a history of mental health illness
37-year-old made over 500 appearances for nine clubs during his career and is now expecting first child with current wife
EX-PREMIER League star Clarke Carlisle has sparked fears after going missing.
The 37-year-old, who made more than 500 appearances for nine different clubs, has a history of mental illness, having battled depression and alcoholism.
The former PFA chairman tragically tried to kill himself in 2014 after stepping out in front of a 12-ton truck, but survived despite suffering horrific injuries.
Speaking in 2015, he revealed: "I had to die. This wasn’t escaping or running away. This was the perfect answer. It made everyone happy and it ticked every box.”
On Friday morning, worried wife Carrie - currently pregnant with their first child - took to Twitter to urge people for information.
She is being supported by friends at her home this afternoon as she waits for her husband to return home.
She wrote: "#Missing Clarke's last known whereabouts was Manchester City Centre at 6am.
"If you see him please get in touch."
Meanwhile Melissa Chappell tweeted:" Family are concerned about #ClarkeCarlisle's welfare.

Father-of-three Carlisle had appeared to be on the road to recovery following his 2014 incident.
Recently, the ex-footballer said: "Two years ago today, I jumped in front of a truck.
"One year today, I was back in psychiatric hospital.
"Today, I’m away with the love of my life."
Carlisle is due to host a mental health awareness evening next week in Birmingham, in memory of ex-Solihull Moors player Nick Mowl, who tragically took his own life earlier this year.
Carlisle's wife Carrie politely declined to comment on the hunt for the ex-footballer, who has been missing since early this morning.
Pregnant Carrie looked worried and distressed dressed in a baggy hoody and leggings with no makeup on.
The 186,000 semi-detached property in Preston, Lancs, had the blinds drawn in the front window.
