Stoke striker Mame Diouf targets silverware after landing new three-year deal keeping him at the Potters until 2020
Senegal star says he is hungry to end City's barren spell after they reward him for his 'versatility' with a long contract
MAME DIOUF is dreaming of Stoke ending their 45-year run without silverware after he landed a new contract until 2020.
The Potters say the Senegal striker is being rewarded for his "versatility" with a three-year deal.
Diouf knows Stoke's last trophy joy was their 2-1 League Cup final victory over Chelsea in 1972.
He said: "There's no reason why we can't win a cup. It's a long time since Stoke City won a trophy and I'd love to be part of a team that did so again."
The 29-year-old has netted 19 times in in 99 matches since joining Stoke three years ago.
And Potters' chief executive Tony Scholes said: "We signed Mame as a striker and over the last 12 months he has proved his versatility in a number of positions.
"He’s an extremely important member of Mark’s squad and we’re delighted he has committed his future to us."
Diouf played five games for Manchester United from 2009 to 2012 before his career took off with Germans Hannover 96.

And although he has struggled to match his 11-goal debut season for the Potters, boss Mark Hughes feels comfortable using Diouf anywhere across the front line or on the wing.
That is the type of flexibility that is priceless in a tight Premier League squad.
And Hughes has even used him at right-back this term.
Diouf's early-season form has been solid and he has played three of their four Prem games.
He even teed up the first of Maxim Choupo-Moting's first two goals as Stoke ended the 100 per cent start made by Diouf's old club United with a 2-2 draw at the Bet365 last Saturday.
