Feyenoord 0 Man City 4: John Stones scores twice with Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero also on target in one-sided match

England international needed less than TWO minutes to open scoring as City ran riot in Champions League opener

JOHN STONES scored his first-ever career brace as Manchester City crushed Feyenoord 4-0 in Rotterdam.

Gabriel Jesus also netted on his Champions League debut as Pep Guardiola’s men ran riot in their opening match of the new European campaign.

It’s taken £50million defender Stones a while to find his feet at City after joining over a year ago.

But the England international looked every inch the perfect replacement for crocked captain Vincent Kompany as he headed his team in front with less than two minutes on the board.

City took the early opener as an indication to press high up the pitch with reckless abandon.

And it wasn’t long before they had a second when Sergio Aguero found the back of the net eight minutes later.

Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva pulled the strings in midfield as Feyenoord continued to chase shadows.

But it was Jesus who had the next say as he knocked in an easy rebound to put the result beyond doubt after just 25 minutes.

Feyenoord’s frustrations soon boiled over as they picked up a flurry of yellow cards in quick succession.

Yet City were not able to hit the target for the remainder of the half despite continuing to dominate possession.

The second 45 saw Guardiola’s men pick up where they left off.

And Stones continued his impressive rise with another towering header in the 65th minute.

The late introductions of Raheem Sterling and and Leroy Sane did little to alleviate Feyenoord’s fears as they desperately defended for the remainder of the match.

But the damage was already done and City were left to savour another glorious win after thrashing Liverpool in the Premier League just days earier.
