Newcastle holds talks with captain Jamaal Lascelles over improved new deal after Swansea heroics
NEWCASTLE UNITED have reportedly opened talks with Jamaal Lascelles over a new contract.
The Magpies captain is currently the toast of the Toon Army after his match-winning display on Sunday.
And the claim his fine form is set to be rewarded with a new deal.
The 23-year-old still has three years left on his current deal at St. James' Park.
But he is now due to receive a pay rise following discussions with club officials.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez made Lascelles captain in 2016 and views the centre-half as a key figure inside the dressing-room.
The ex-Nottingham Forest man has been linked with Premier League big boys Chelsea and Liverpool over the past year.

And after he has continued to impress following the return to the top-flight, Toon chiefs want to secure his long-term future at the club.
Lascelles appears to be loving life under Benitez and has spoken of his determination to continue improving from working with the Spaniard.
He said previously: “I am still young, still 23.
“I still have a lot to improve on. I know that, everybody knows that, the manager knows that.
“But I am a listener and a learner. I will always work hard.”
