Premier League clubs on alert as Bayern Munich chief Rummenigge blasts Robert Lewandowski for hitting out at summer transfers

BAYERN MUNICH legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has blasted Robert Lewandowski after questioning the club’s summer spending.

The striker was not exactly bowled over by the arrivals of Corentina Tolisso from Lyon, Niklas Sule from Hoffenheim and a permanent deal for French winger Kingsley Coman from Juventus.

Lewandowski linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester United im recent months watched on in the summer as Paris Saint Germain invested huge sums landing Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

While Barcelona spent PSG’s money landing Borussia Dortmund winger Dembele for a staggering £138m.

Byaern were knocked out by eventual winners Real Madrid in the the Champison League quarter-finals last season and are currenlty sixth in the Bundesliga after losing to Hoffenheim on Saturday.

The Polish striker moaned to Der Spiegel: “Bayern has to come up with something new and creative, if the club wants to keep luring world class players to Munich.

“And if you want to keep up at the very highest level, you need these players' quality.”

However, Rummenigge the club chief executive hit back at last season’s club top scorer after the defeat at Hoffenhiem.

“He already made false claims last season following the Freiburg match, where he claimed he had not been supported enough.

“I don't think the player's might is that high, and Lewandowski can see that when he looks at his contract, he signed until 2021 without an exit clause.

“Regrettably his agent often is his 'Spiritus Rector' [guiding light]. That was the case here, too.

“The interview was consciously organised around Bayern. He harms Robert with that."
