Arsenal chief Ivan Gazidis believes transfer window WAS a success by keeping Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil
Gunners guvnor says keeping contract rebels Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez is a 'statement of ambition' and criticism is clouded by results
ARSENAL chief executive Ivan Gazidis has stunned supporters by claiming that summer transfer window should be viewed as a success.
After making a bright start to their business and recruiting Sead Kolasinac and £52million Alexandre Lacazette, the Gunners faithful were left seething at club officials last week.
They lost Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool, but they also kept hold of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez - even though the Chilean wants out and was set for a deadline day move to Manchester City.
But Arsene Wenger failed to bring in replacements for any of the above three, and with the latter pair set to leave for nothing at the end of the season, the Emirates faithful were critical of their club's actions.
However, Gazidis dismissed criticism from the terraces and believes it is a result of hysteria surrounding Arsenal's embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in their last Premier League match.
In an email sent to players and staff on Friday, claim he wrote: "At the end of the window, reviewing all activity, we have once again improved the depth and quality of the squad.
"Everything is coloured by results... a positive performance at Liverpool would have coloured this transfer window very differently.
"We have had a poor start to the season but have the quality to turn it around and turn around performances and compete for the title."

Arsenal were one of a select few clubs in the top-flight to turn a profit in the window.
But Gazidis claimed that keeping hold of Ozil and Sanchez "was a clear statement of our ambitions and should help refute suggestions we are just about the money. That is simply nonsense."
They have endured a miserable start to the new season. Having kicked off with a scrappy 4-3 victory over Leicester, they went on to suffer a 1-0 reverse at Stoke before the humiliation at Anfield.
