Croatia 1 Kosovo 0: Domagoj Vida’s strike enough to send Croatia back to the top of their World Cup Qualifying group in re-arranged clash
The game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch yesterday, so the remaining 69 minutes were played out this afternoon
DOMAGOJ VIDA scored the only goal of the game as Croatia defeated Kosovo 1-0 in their re-arranged World Cup Qualifier.
The Group I clash was postponed with just 21 minutes played last night due to a waterlogged pitch.
But after the rest of the game was played out today, Vida's headed effort on 74 minutes proved enough to send Croatia back to the top of the table.
Former Tottenham man Luka Modric arrowed in a fine cross, and the pony-tailed centre-half rose highest to thunder a header past Kosovo keeper Samir Ujkani.
It was Vida's first international goal for four years.
Unsurprisingly against minnows Kosovo, Croatia dominated possession, but their football was certainly affected by a sodden and cut-up pitch after last night's deluge.
The victory sees Croatia usurp Ukraine at the top of Group I, while their near-neighbours Kosovo remain bottom.
In the first attempt at playing the game, torrential rain turned the contest into a farce, and the referee was forced to bring the proceedings to an early finish with the score goalless.
