Arsenal in pole position to sign West Brom star Jonny Evans under Man City’s noses
The Irishman is set for a hefty pay rise with some of the top Premier League clubs fighting for his signature
ARSENAL are in pole position to sign West Brom star Jonny Evans under Manchester City’s noses.
The 29-year-old defender is being chased by Arsene Wenger to replace the unwanted Shkodran Mustafi.
He is in talks with Inter Milan over a loan move, just one season after joining for £35m.
Evans is understood to be keen on a switch to a top Premier League side, with the Gunners now favourites.
City boss Pep Guardiola is keen on the ex-Manchester United centre-back, and has seen two bids rejected already.
West Brom are thought to be looking for around £30m for Evans, who is also being tracked by Leicester.
But it is believed Arsenal are now frontrunners, and he is in talks to join in a last-gasp deadline day deal.
Evans joined the Baggies for just £6m in 2015 from United, and will attract a fee SIX times as much nearly two-years on.
The Gunners are trying to offload their flops this summer, but are struggling because of their huge wages.
Kieran Gibbs left the Emirates today, heading to West Brom in a £7m switch.
And it is thought talks over Evans were had while the clubs were thrashing out a deal for the England full-back.
