Mamadou Sakho nears Crystal Palace return with Liverpool outcast on the verge of completing stunning £25million return
French centre-back not wanted by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and is now set to return to Selhurst Park in permanent deal
CRYSTAL PALACE are reportedly close to re-signing Liverpool outcast Mamadou Sakho in a £25million deal.
The French centre-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Selhurst Park.
Sakho became an instant fan favourite with a number of rock-solid performances in defence.
But the Eagles failed to strike an agreement to sign him permanently and Sakho has since been rotting in Liverpool’s reserves.
However, the now claims that he will be returning to south-east London before Thursday’s deadline after Palace offered to pay £25m for his services.
The fee is just short of the £30m Liverpool were reportedly looking for earlier in the window.
But with no offers from elsewhere, it appears the Reds have decided that Palace’s bid is as good as it’s going to get.
Sakho is sure to be delighted at the prospect of returning to his former stomping ground.
But the report adds Palace are still looking at other centre-backs, although whether they are alternatives to Sakho or new potential partners remains unclear.
It’s said that Jose Fonte is a target, although West Ham are sure to demand £8m for the 33-year-old.
While Palace have also been offered Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour, who is wanted by a number of top European teams.
