Winston Reid carried off on stretcher in the WARM-UP after West Ham defender suffered injury before Southampton game
Hammers defender signed new six-year contract with the club this week but struck down by muscle problem before game at Saints kicked-off
WEST HAM defender Winston Reid was carried off on a stretcher - after suffering an injury BEFORE the game with Southampton kicked-off.
Hammers defender Reid was left in agony after pulling up as he was put through his paces in the warm-up at St Mary's.
And the New Zealand international was left with the humiliation of having to be taken off by medics as supporters were only just making their way into the ground.
The injury, believed to be to his calf, came at the worst possible time for the centre-back who had only just signed a new six-year contract with the Hammers last week.
Boss Slaven Bilic was forced to make a change to his starting line-up before kick-off, with the dropped Angelo Ogbonna having to come straight back in from the off.
And the changes had an immediate effect on West Ham as Southampton raced into a lead just 11 minutes into the game through Manolo Gabbiadini.
