How Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Europe’s big boys could get PSG kicked out Champions League over Neymar transfer

If one major side appeals any 'slap on the wrist' from Uefa over potential FFP breach, Euro body would come down hard

AFTER Neymar completed his incredible £198million move to Paris Saint-Germain, many asked how the French side could justify the outlay.

They need to prove they receive a big enough income to remain within the parameters or Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Barcelona are unhappy about the way Neymar was pursued this summer

PSG — along with Manchester City —fell foul of Europe’s governing body in 2014, having been fined and forced to reduce their Champions League squad number from 25 to 21.

And that was described by many as a “slap on the wrist” — but a guilty verdict would be met with much more severity on this occasion.

FFP covers a three-year period of profit and loss, so Uefa won’t analyses PSG’s financial state until the summer of 2018, when the current phase ends.

On the previous occasion, PSG and City effectively “agreed a settlement” through now-Fifa chief Gianni Infantino, explain .

Had any club appealed the original sanction, the matter would have been sent to Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body’s adjudicatory chamber, which is a panel made up of independent judges.

On this occasion, it is likely Barcelona — who were unhappy with the way Neymar was pursued behind their backs — want to ensure PSG are punished as severely as possible.

While, other major powers such as Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich could also have their say as they have adherently stayed within FFP regulations.

At that point, likely action would be a transfer ban expulsion from the Champions League.

New Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin has made it his mission to close the gap between the so called big clubs and small clubs.

So he would be under huge pressure to “throw the book” at PSG if they are found guilty of any wrongdoing.

As things stand, the Ligue 1 giants are looking at the worst possible punishment, as it seems unlikely they have the means to legally make back the money they have spent.
