MANCHESTER UNITED will allow David De Gea to join Real Madrid next summer if they can secure a deal to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan.
The Spain No 1 is desperate to return to to his homeland, but has a contract until 2019 — and will not force a move.
However, should Jose Mourinho manage to find a suitable replacement, he would let De Gea, 26, return to the Spanish capital.
The highly-rated Donnarumma announced he would not be signing a new contract at Milan, before bowing to fan-pressure and penning a new £150,000-a-week extension.
However, should the Rossoneri fail to make the Champions League next season, he is expected to leave the San Siro in the summer, with United likely to swoop.
Milan have spent big as they look to make a return to the glory days and are under pressure to perform.
However, despite fourth-place now giving Italian teams a place at Europe's top table for the the first time since 2012, there are many who are sceptical over the quality of their overhaul.
And failure to reach the Champions League would see them lose their prize asset.

⚽FOOTBALL TIPS: Wayne Rooney to score anytime v City, 16/5⚽
WAYNE ROONEY loves scoring against Manchester City.
Only Alan Shearer has scored more Premier League goals against them.
And with Rooney starting to sparkle at Everton, we fancy him to do it again at the Etihad on Monday night.
Donnarumma’s agent, Mino Raiola enjoys a good relationship with Red Devils, who currently have three of his clients in Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku — and are expected to re-sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Juventus looked favourites to sign the 18-year-old as a long-term replacement for Gianluigi Buffon, before the youngster's change of heart.
During the negotiations, Raiola suggested the Bianconeri move for De Gea instead, and allow Donnarumma to join United.
However, he was told the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper only has eyes for Spain.
Juventus then signed Wojciech Szczesny from Arsenal, meaning they are no longer in the running for Donnarumma.
Zinedine Zidane has assembled one of the greatest sides in memory at the Bernabeu — with the only real area of concern being in between the posts.
Keylor Navas is often seen as somewhat of liability and, at 31, is one of the oldest players in the squad.
