Barcelona vice-president ‘hopes Lionel Messi’s contract situation ends well’ despite club announcing he had signed new £500,000-a-week five-year deal in July
Sporting director Pep Segura had earlier refused to confirm whether the contract had actually been signed as announced
BARCELONA’S vice-president Jordi Mestre has added to the confusion surrounding Lionel Messi's contract situation, by admitting he "hope it ends well."
It's been a turbulent summer for the Catalans.
Having won La Liga and the Champions League last season, Real Madrid confirmed their superiority over their Clasico rivals with a 5-1 aggregate victory in the Spanish Super Cup.

But at least they managed to secure the future of arguably the greatest footballer of all-time — or have they?
Mestre, who had previously claimed he was "200 per cent certain" Neymar was staying, told reporters: "It looks good, I just hope it ends well."

It shouldn’t be anything to worry Barcelona fans who, right now, have many more pressing concerns, and the club made an official announcement about a five-year contract worth £500,000-a-week for Messi.
But it is a strange response, given the fact the Catalans are not enjoying the best period in recent years and would have benefited from some positive news.
Segura did, however, confirm Barcelona are closing in on their two biggest targets of the summer.
He added: “[Philippe] Coutinho and [Ousmane] Dembele are close — we hope they will be Barcelona players for the upcoming season.”
